Safety Director of Construction

Job Summary

The Safety Director is responsible to inspect working conditions throughout all project sites to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.  Their primary responsibility will be to develop and maintain all safety policies of Donnelly’s construction divisions. He/she will communicate effectively with all types of personnel including management, staff, general contractors and subcontractors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of safety programs, compliance plans and initiatives
  • Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses and instances of property damage
  • Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and proper records/documents are maintained
  • Conduct routine safety observations to ensure compliance with Donnelly’s environmental, health and safety policies, procedures and practices
  • Ensure the company meets all legislative compliance obligations with OSHA, EPA, FDNY, and DOT, AWAC, ADA, and fire codes if they apply
  • Serve as primary contact for all regulatory agencies for inspections, permitting and reporting
  • Review subcontractor agreements to ensure appropriate stipulations are outlined
  • Develop and maintain company Health and Safety policies
  • Attend weekly operational meetings with construction project management teams, general contractors and subcontractors
  • Work in conjunction with the Safety Coordinator on all administrative functions including reporting accidents on employees/subcontractors or incidents involving property damage

Position Requirements/Experience/ Education

  • 7+ years’ experience in construction industry with responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety
  • BS in Occupational Health and Safety or related field (preferred)
  • OSHA 30, 510, CHSP, NYC DOB 40, scaffolding certifications (preferred)
  • Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred (preferred)
  • Ability to be on call or work off hours as needed
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently with attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Superior analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
